Paintball in High School?

Paintball is a sport like football, tennis, hockey and golf. With any sport there is all sorts of equipment and skill levels. Paintball is no different with the exception of the paintball gun (marker) and shooting each other with it. Guns in school today are really frowned upon and with good reason. Anytime you mix defenseless people and someone intent on injuring them people get really upset. Paintball is different and needs to be looked at as the sport that it is. There are many professional paintball players and many professional leagues all across the world. If you havent seen at match yet then you need to. Its one of the fastest and most exciting sports since horse racing.

Paintball is safer than football, soccer and baseball. It is a non-contact sport and the most common injuries are strains and sprains. Usually from running and jumping. Getting hit with a paintball can sting but usually will only leave a red mark or welt but not always. There are many safety precautions like the helmet and facemask not to mention weapon safety like a plug in the working end of the barrel. The plug, or sometimes sock is designed to prevent a misfire of the paintball marker along with other safety devices. Learning about weapon safety is more important then learning how to shoot the marker. Most paintball fields require people to follow their safety procedures at all times.

The paintball itself is made of the same gelatin type of material that prescription drugs are made of. And the paint inside of them is a water-soluable dye and soap, which is biodegradable and non-toxic. They could be eaten but dont be tempted because they taste really bad. The marker is designed to shoot the paintballs using compressed gas or air and is designed to propel the ball at adjustable speeds. These guns are designed to be adjustable for indoor or outdoor play and are monitored for their speed for safety purposes. There are many rules of the game, just like any other, and the players need to understand them before getting involved in the sport.

The NCPA (National Collegiate Paintball Association) consistently works to set up local high school clubs to make it easy for students to play the game in a safe setting. Of course not all high schools have adopted the sport but if you would really like to play there are several options. You could start your own high school team and try to get the sport started in your school district. Or you could always find a local paintball field bring some friends and family members and simply have your own weekly game.

Paintball is a fast exciting sport that many kids and adults have been playing for years. The first game took place in 1981 in New Hampshire. Its a very safe non-contact sport with professional teams throughout the world. Many colleges are constantly working to increase awareness and make it easy for high schools to begin setting up their own teams. Once you start playing paintball you just might get addicted and have to start your own team.
